This year, the 8th Annual George Harney Memorial Walk & Challenge takes place on Sat. 3rd July 2004. Additional information on the walk and challenge can be found on the 2004 Comeragh Crossing Brochure (23KB .pdf Document) which you can download and print out.
The Walk: is approx. 35km with an ascent of 1,150m with beautiful scenery on a good day but has proved a difficult walk on an inclement day. The average time to cover the full route is approx. 10 hours. There are 3 stages to the Walk and it is possible to join the walk at the start of Stage 2 or Stage 3. Experience is needed to complete the entire 3 stages. Entrants can join a group led by experienced leaders.
The Challenge: is 40km with an ascent of 1,920m. Participants must have completed other long walks with at least 1,500m climbing or more. This is a walk for the well experienced, with a high level of fitness.

The event is the biggest single undertaking in the Club’s calendar and whilst it is primarily a social and interaction event, there is another side to it. The Club recognises that such an event should avail of the opportunity to attract sponsorship for worthy charities and since its inception, more than €65,000 has been raised for local charities. 50% of the proceeds raised each year goes to West Waterford Hospice with the remaining 50% going to a charity chosen by Club members.
This year, the chosen charity is the Waterford & South-East Samaritans.
